9034 Chapter 34 of: “Twinergy and the Boys of Clear Lake!”

Mr. V: “Is that Dr. Ronald Hart you we’re speaking of?”

Dr. Semoni: “Yes, it is. I guess he knows you after all.”

Mr. V: “He mentioned me?”

Dr. Semoni: “When he saw the name on your sons chart, he thought that he recognized the boys name and thought he knew his father.”

Mr. V: “Yes, I’m his Architect.”

Dr. Semoni: “That’s what he mentioned, he was pretty sure it was the same guy. Being from Clear Lake and all.”

Mr. V: “So he called in a special Doctor?”

Dr. Semoni: “Yes, one of his friends is Chief Neurosurgeon at Reno General.”

Mr. V: “Is he good Dr. Semoni?”

Dr. Semoni: “He’s the best on the West Coast. If your son comes through this Mr. Von Heflin, then he’s in the best hands with Dr. Hudson.”

Mr. V: “Oh that’s a relief, is Dr. Hart about, I’d like to speak to him.”

Dr. Semoni: “Not just now. He’s in the Emergency Room with a patient.”

Mr. V: “When he gets out would you tell him me and Nadia are here and would like to see him.”

Dr. Semoni: “Of course.”

Mr. V: “And could you update us on our son Dr.?”

Dr. Semoni: “All I know is that he lost a lot of blood and was comatose upon arrival. They’re still trying to stabilize him in the ER. I’ll make sure you’re updated when we know anything.”

Just then the elevator sprang open and Dr. Hudson walked out. Dr. Semoni said, “Dr. Hudson, the boy is in ER number three, and they’re waiting on you. Dr. Ruck and Sloan are in there trying to stabilize him.”

Dr. Hudson: “Thank you Dr., and tell Dr. Hart I’ve arrived.”

Dr. Semoni: “He’s in ER number five stabilizing a boy with a snake bite.”

Dr. Hudson: “Alright then, I’ll stick my head in before I get started.”

Just then Mr. Von Heflin yelled out to Dr. Hudson, “That’s our son Nikita in there Dr. Hudson! Please do your best to save Nikita!”

The Doctor looked in their direction, nodded his head, and was off to the ER.

After scrubbing up, Dr. Hudson made his way to the ER’s and did stick his head into ER number five to see Dr. Hart. Dr. Hart did explain that the Von Heflin’s were of special interest to him and that they were indeed friends. Dr. Hudson assured him he would do whatever he could, and then made his way into ER number three.

Dr. Hudson: “What do we have Doctors?”

Dr. Ruck: “Ahh, Dr. Hudson, nice to see you again. Here’s the ex-ray and cat scan. We’ve given him several units of blood, but it appears we may be losing him.”

Dr. Hudson: “Yes, looks like the impact has caused excessive swelling. I’m going to have to operate.” Dr. Hudson replied.

Dr. Sloan: “I see, there isn’t much of anything in the way of internal hemorrhaging yet, it’s just the pressure.”

Dr. Hudson: “Then get him up to the OR and prepped for surgery. I’m going to inform his parents.”

Just as Dr. Hudson was leaving the ER, Dr. Hart was exiting ER number five. Dr Hart approached Dr. Hudson and said “Geoffrey, I’m glad you came.”

Dr. Hudson: “Hello Ronald, good to see you too, but I’m afraid it’s looking like it may be a wasted trip. I’m just on my way to speak to the parents of the Von Heflin boy. Would you like to accompany me?”

Dr. Hart: “Yes, what’s his status.”

Dr. Hudson: “I’m afraid it doesn’t look good. I’ll need to operate to relieve the pressure.”

Dr. Hart: “I mean, is there going to be any permanent damage?”

Dr. Hudson: “If he even survives the surgery, which is doubtful, I’m afraid so Ron.”

Dr. Hart: “What a shame.”

Dr. Hudson: “What about your little boy with the snake bite?”

Dr. Hart: “Well, Rattle Snake venom is a hemotoxin. There was nothing we could do, it took too long to get the anti venom into him. Hemotoxic venom attacks the muscles and heart, and it’s pretty much shot. We were able to resuscitate him and get his heartbeat and pulse back, but I’m afraid he’s brain dead and on life support.”

Dr. Hudson: “On a machine, sad day all around. What are his parents going to do then?”

Dr. Hart: “He’s a ward of the state. He’s from the Native American Orphanage up in South Clear Lake. Were waiting for his case worker from Social Services to show up. She’ll need to get a court order from the judge to turn the machine off so the poor boy can rest in peace.”

The two Doctors made their way out to the waiting room as Nadia slapped her husband on the arm and they both sprang up out of their seats. Mr. Von Heflin spoke, “How is he Doctor?”

Dr. Hudson: He’s alive, but we’ll need to operate. His brain has swollen to the point the skull cannot contain it. If we don’t cut into his skull to relieve the pressure he’ll surely die.”

Nadia: “Oh MY God Niklas!”

Niklas grabbed his wife as she buried her face into his chest. He rubbed her back and said, “He’s still alive dear, so we should be grateful for that. Do what you need to do. And thank you soo much Ron for calling Dr. Hudson in.”

Dr. Hart: “Your very welcome Niklas. But there’s something you need to know.”

Niklas: “What is it Ron?”

Dr. Hart: “If Nikita does survive this, then I’m afraid there’s very little chance he’ll lead a normal life.”

Niklas: “What are his chances of survival Dr. Hudson?”

Dr. Hudson: “If I were to be honest with you Mr. Von Heflin, I’d say he has between a 20 to 30% chance of survival.”

Niklas: “That’s all?”

Dr. Hudson: “I’m afraid so.”

Niklas: “Well, it’s better than nothing.” As his wife began to break down in his arms before Golden Fawn pulled her away into a hug and they sat down.

Niklas: “And what about his chances of leading a normal life if he does make it?”

Dr. Hudson: “I would honestly have to say that there’s zero chance of that. We just don’t know how bad yet.”

Niklas: “Why, what happened.”

Dr. Hart: “The blow to his skull caused the brain to swell Niklas. That combined with the blood loss and lack of oxygen to the brain is going to cause some permanent damage.”

Dr. Hudson: “I can’t stay any longer. I need to get to the OR.”

Niklas: “Yes of course Dr. Just Do whatever you can do and save our son.”

Just then as Dr. Hudson walked into the elevator and up to the operating room, Dr. Semoni walked up to Dr. Hart and Niklas.

Dr. Hart: “What In the name of Heaven is it now Anthony?”

Dr. Semoni: “Maybe we can talk over here gentlemen.”

Dr. Semoni motioned them both over away from the ladies a few feet. “Is that the mother of the Native American boy that was killed up in Clear Lake?”

Niklas: “Yes, yes it is. Her name is Golden Fawn and she’s Sequoia’s mother.”

Dr. Semoni: “That’s what I thought. She asked the Head Nurse earlier where they took her son. That she would like to see his remains to hold his hands and say and kiss him goodbye.”

Dr. Hart: “Ok then. What’s the problem?”

Dr. Semoni: “Maybe we should speak in person Dr. Hart?”

Dr. Hart: “Just spit it out man. I’ve known Niklas for over ten years!”

Dr. Semoni: “Well, you see….they, umm.”

Dr. Hart: “What is it Anthony? Just say what you came to say!”

Dr. Semoni: “The bodies gone sir!”

Dr. Hart: “Shit fire, they lost the boy’s body?”

Dr. Semoni: “No sir, not exactly.”

Dr. Hart: “What do you mean not exactly. Did or didn’t they lose the body?”

Dr. Semoni: “I spoke personally to the driver. And there was no body when he arrived back sir.”

Dr. Hart: “Then he lost the body Dr. Semoni!”

Golden Fawn had overheard part of the conversation and walked up to the three men and inquired of them regarding her son.

Dr. Hudson told Dr. Semoni, “Well, tell her!”

Dr. Semoni: “Yes sir.”

He then looked at Golden Fawn quite nervously, “Ma’am, the driver made a direct trip back with no stops and the van was locked. But when he opened the door when he arrived back, the stretcher and gurney were there. And so was the body bag, but it was empty. No traces of blood or anything, except your boys clothes, and the fillings from his teeth. Your sons body, it’s gone mam.”

Dr. Hart: “Christ, what’s next!”

Golden Fawn: “He had a new leather necklace around his neck Dr. It had a rattle from a rattle snake attached to it, was it there as well?”

Dr. Semoni: “No ma’am, nothing like that. But I can talk to the driver again if you would like?”

Golden Fawn shook her head signaling not to bother and went back and sat down.

Dr Hart: “Well Anthony, call the Sheriff and report a missing body.”

Dr. Semoni: “Yes sir.”

Dr. Hart walked up to Golden Fawn and looked down upon her and said, “Ma’am, I apologize for this and that your sons remains are missing. We will find them for you.”

Golden Fawn replied without looking up at the Dr. “No you won’t.”

Then Niklas walked up and added in, “Don’t think negatively Golden Fawn. He won’t be missing for long.”

With that Golden Fawn looked up with a wide bright smile on her face and said, “Sequoia isn’t missing. And I don’t believe you will ever find his body. But you’re welcome to search.”

Niklas looked at her oddly, and replied, “Don’t be ridiculous, of course they’ll find him.”

Golden Fawn: “I doubt they will ever find him Niklas, and truth be told…..he isn’t lost. But we shall see Sequoia again someday, and of that I am sure!!!”
