9058 Chapter 58 of: “Twinergy and the boys of Clear Lake!”

Reiley: “Does this concern our vote Garrett?”

Garrett: “Yes it does. And there’s some things you need to know. Things that Nika made a promise not to tell or talk about. About what Tanner’s home life is like and what he’s goes through.”

Nika: “Garrett, no, you can’t!”

Garrett: “Yes, yes I can Nika. You may have promised him something Nika…..I didn’t.

Blake: “I take it, it’s bad Garrett?”

Garrett: “It’s hurtful Blake, that’s for sure. Dakota’s on our football team, and I’m over there sometimes. And their family’s not playing with a full deck.”

Reiley: “How so Garrett?”

Garrett: “Reiley, I admire you in protecting the others. But you disappoint me in not trusting Nika. I don’t know how he did it, but Nika stumbled onto Tanners problems somehow. The kid has no outlet at home. His parents seem to have had kids, just to have kids. I’ve never in all the times I’ve been over there seen either of them hug any of their three kids. And if Tanners not being ignored by them, then it’s Dakota pushing Tanner around, and punching him for fun.

The kid is almost like a lab rat in how he’s treated. And the sad part is, I think he prefers the abuse to being ignored, because at least that way someone is paying some kind of attention to him. You guys do what you want, I’m not gonna start preaching. I’ve said what I have to say. But next time your at home feeling safe and cared for. Enjoy the feeling, but at the same time think of Tanner, and that it’s a feeling he’s never had….at least in his own home. And another thing, I’m not telling you guys what to do, but I’ll make you all a promise. If you take care of Tanner, believe me when I say this, I’ll take care of Dakota. Enough’s enough!”

KC: “Phewwwww! Alright, what now guys?”

Reiley, whispering: “I didn’t know guys……I didn’t know.”

Garrett: “I’m going back in the kitchen. The salads are done Blake, so we can eat whenever your done out here. But do what you need to do.”

Blake: “Thanks Garrett, thanks. And we’ll be in in a few minutes, the meats done and I’m toasting the buns now.

Nika: “Ok guys, we need to make a decision, cause that means Jace and Tanner will be in in a little while too. We need to either vote for or against him, or agree to put this off till another time and pick it up later.”

Cody: “That means its up to you and KC, Reiley. We have seven for, and three undecided. Well two anyway, and Nika’s vote that’s cast last.”

Reiley: “Well KC, what do you think?”

KC: “Yah, what the fuck, I was gonna vote for him all along anyway. I just wanted to drag it out a bit so we could talk about his attitude and if we were gonna do something about it, or just let him go rogue?”

Reiley: “Those are kinda my thoughts too!”

Blake: “Make no mistake, we’re gonna have a talk with him guys. He’s not gonna carry on with “Business as usual” if he cares about our gesture and wants to come on-board.”

Reiley: “How do we know he even wants to come on board? Has anybody even bothered to ask him?”

Nika: “Trust me guys, someone who has no one definitely wants to come on board.”

KC: “I hope you mean that Blake, about talking to him, just because I can fight, doesn’t mean I like to fight. And you do realize that you and I will be doing the lion’s share of the fighting….don’t you?”

Blake: “Yah KC, I do, and we’ll speak to him about the conditions.”

Cody: “Yah, and besides KC, no one really likes to fight.”

Wesley, staring at Travis, and Travis back at him smiling: “Well, I wouldn’t exactly say that guys.”

KC: “Lovely!”

Nika: “Ok KC, so you’re a yes?”

KC: “Yah, sorry Reiley, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt. Like it or not, we all love him, and he’s already one of us wheather or not we make it official. Or wheather we call him a “Posse” member or not. Besides, I think he can change, and I think with time, he will change.”

Cody: “True, true. Time will heal. So that’s that. It’s your call Reiley!”

Blake: “Yah old friend, it all comes down to you. Make it or break it Reiley. But either way, his future is on your conscience. And you know now that there’s more to him than the personality he shows. He fakes it Reiley, he’s a faker.”

Nika: “Common Reiley, think with your heart and make us proud!”

Travis and Wesley, chanting: “Reiley-Reiley-Reiley-Reiley-Reiley!”

Reiley: “Alright, Alright, Fuck Guys! So be it. If it’s what you want, then fine. But remember what we talked about and we need to have a talk with him.”

Blake: “We will. But we also can’t jump ship the first time he acts out….and he IS gonna act out and get us in trouble at times.”

Nika: “That’s fine, I don’t think any of us expect him to change overnight, but we do expect a gradual change. And as long as I see him making an attempt and progressing, than it’s enough for me.”

Blake: “Yah Reiley, and you can’t just leave it at “if it’s what you guys want, then fine.” You need to believe in your decision, and not just say that it’s just cause of what we wanted!”

Cody: “He’s right Reiley.”

Reiley: “Don’t sweat it guys. You had me way back, right after Nika asked us, “have you ever wondered why he acts the way he does, and have you ever seen anyone hug him…ever?” I was sold way back then!”

Sasha: “Then why’d you draw it out so long Reiley?”

Blake: “To make a point Sash!”

Reiley: “Yah, sorry guys. But I had to look out after all of us and be sure everyone took this vote very seriously. After all, we’ve never had a vote like this before. And after the fast vote for Sash, Sequoia, Trav, and Wes, on the boat. I wanted to slow things down a bit and make sure everyone weighs what the consequences will be.”

Blake: “It’s a big responsibility, we all know that.”

Cody: “Yah, I just wish parents were as careful. What’s the old saying, anyone can have a child but you need a license to have a dog?”

Nika: “Something like that.”

Blake: “Lets go eat guys!”

Reiley: “Ummm, not quite yet Blake.”

Blake: “Why, we’re done?”

Reiley: “Nika?”

Nika: “Haha, he’s right Blake. I now vote for Tanner too. He’s officially in!”

That was it, it was a done deal. We then made our way back into the kitchen as Tasha and Garrett were sitting at the table picking little clumps of potato salad out of the bowl with their fingers, and feeding it into each others mouth. All the while lost with a look of love staring into each others eyes. All very revolting…..YUK! I told them, “Knock it off freaks, let’s eat.”

Tasha: “How’d it go guys, are there more of the “nerd-herd” now or what?”

Garrett: “Haha, the nerd-herd, cool.”

Sasha ran towards the back yard to get the two instigators of the group, as we all walked around to the various dishes on the counter filling our plates. Tanner and Jace came back in, dripping and wrapped in towels, shortly after Sasha had returned, and we all began to eat. We all sat down, and began to eat and talk. Everyone was happy, and Tanner looked just like he’d always fit in with all of us. And somehow I realized he had. And that really, even without the vote, he was one of us. And I also noticed how much happier he seemed in the last year or so. And the “changes” he’d been going through since he began increasing his time up here with us. And how his world had changed since then.

And another thing. Some of the rest of us may not have noticed it. But he wasn’t as angry as he used to be. I mean old habits are hard to break, and there’s still the fiasco at the Sheriffs office, and he still has an X rated mouth. But even with the frustration he still showed when that “wire” got crossed in his brain, and he went on a tangent, he still didn’t show the outright anger that he did in the years before. And as I watched him, I could tell that he recognized it too. That he was quite aware of what he was going through, especially at home. And that being up here with us was somehow healing him in a way that will make us all better for having him a part of our Posse. And even more important, a part of each others lives.

As we were eating, Blake stood up and said, “Everyone, listen up.”

Everyone quieted down and focused on Blake as he said, “we have an important announcement everyone.” Everyone smiled, except Tanner who was dumbfounded as to what was going on. Even Tash and Garrett were smiling. I said, “Go ahead Blake.”

Blake: “Nah, this is mostly your doing Nika, so I’m not stealing your thunder. You tell him!”

Everyone looked at Tanner who was now starting to fidget a little and looked around very nervously. Then he said, “What, what the fuck did I do now guys?”

I replied, “You became lucky number eleven Tanner!”

Tanner: “I already am eleven Nika?”

I walked around behind him and began rubbing his shoulders and said, “No Tanner, not eleven years old, you’re number eleven in the Posse now. We voted while you were swimming with Jace, and your officially now one of us……congrats buddy!”

Everyone smiled or yelled something at him as they all walked around the table and approached him, giving him a playful punch in the arm (not quite as hard as Dakota).

And through it all Tanner only said, “For real? You really mean it?” As he just sat there with a wicked smile on his face like he was the real Oliver Twist, and he had just found his long lost family. He didn’t need to say much because his smile said it all. And what’s more, every one of us saw it in his face and his body language, and knew at that moment we had made the right choice. For the first time in his life, he was part of something special. And the most important thing of all, was that he was part of something he wanted to be a part of. And he didn’t have to ask for it, or beg for it. Instead, it was given to him. Freely and openly. He was chosen by others. He was special and he was selected. He finally, now had people around him who wanted him as well!

Oh, yeah

Still don’t know what I was waitin’ for
And my time was runnin’ wild
A million dead end streets and
Every time I thought I’d got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
So I turned myself to face me
But I’ve never caught a glimpse of
How the others must see the faker
I’m much too fast to take that test

Turn and face the strange
Don’t want to be a richer man
Turn and face the strange
Just gonna have to be a different man
Time may change me
But I can’t trace time
Mmm, yeah

I watch the ripples change their size
But never leave the stream
Of warm impermanence
So the days float through my eyes
But still the days seem the same
And these children that you spit on
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations
They’re quite aware of what they’re goin’ through

Turn and face the strange
Don’t tell them to grow up and out of it
Turn and face the strange
Where’s your shame?
You’ve left us up to our necks in it
Time may change me
But you can’t trace time

Strange fascination, fascinatin’
Ah, changes are takin’
The pace I’m goin’ through

Turn and face the strange
Oh, look out you rock ‘n’ rollers
Turn and face the strange
Pretty soon now you’re gonna get older
Time may change me
But I can’t trace time
I said that time may change me
But I can’t trace time

Dam… I’ve spent my whole afternoon reading this story (I really have way too much time :P) and I have only 1 conclusion to make. This is 1 of the best stories I’ve read anywhere. Sometimes strange, but most of the times awesome. I must say somehow Cody & Tanner are my favourite chars here. I thought I knew who was Tanners crush when he ‘revealed’ himself to Nika, but somehow I’m not so sure anymore. Anyways, great chapter here again, is there actually a notification-list? Or do we have to check everyday for new chapters?

    • codyboarder Says:

      hi peter,

thanks you and welcome to “twinergy.” there is not a notification list…as of yet? but who knows. this blog is only about a month old, so theres a lot left to do, including a FAQ page that is under construction, and the re-editing of most of the first 20 or so chapters, before the “blog” was transfered from another site and the 12 original (and incredibly long) chapters were broken down into 44 smaller ones. and of course the subsequent chpts added since then. but at the rate im going, i should be posting a new chapter about every two to three days. at least at the time being till school projects start to get in the way. thx again for joining the “twinergy” club.

      peAce, ~cody!

  2. Dawngreeter Says:

Fantastic. That, and you completed the chapter with one of my all-time favorite songs. Now, with that out of the way, what did Mr. Weiner give Nika?

    • codyboarder Says:

haha, its comming dawn. and for the song. beliebe it or not. the popular music here now is split about fifty-fifty between rap or seventies rock. and a small group or country music fans as well.

  3. Anthony Says:

It sounds like that question is becoming the next “How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?” The world may never know…

Regardless of how many licks that takes or what the gift is (which I still want to know nonetheless), I wish I had a group like this when I was around their age. Maybe I wouldn’t be the bitter-sweet person that I am today. People like these fellows, whether they are children or they are adults, can definitely change a person, for better or worse. I know that Tanner will change, and for the better. It feels like the group is complete, or at least close to completion. Then again, one can never know until it shows up on paper… uhhhh… I mean on the page… the web page.

To the point, I was not expecting this chapter so soon after the last. It’s nice to know that some cliffs we get to hang on for only about a day or so. Then again, it is the storyline that brings me in, but it is the cliff hangers that keep me here. There are questions to answer and plenty of future story to answer them with.

I’ve run out of things to ramble on about.

Thank you (and how I mean it),

    -An Avid Reader Anthony

    • codyboarder Says:

      hey anthony,

this story has got soo large and complex with the amount of characters, that some questions are going to take some time to anwser. and my old style chapters when i began the story were 4 to 6 times longer than the way the new chapters are broken down. so a LOT more questions got anwsered in just one post. but it wasn’t juat a “red herring” and the answer will come realitivly soon.
and as far as your statement about you being “bitter-sweet” i guess thats ok, as long as your not bitter-bitter…..bitter-sweet we can handle…haha. ttys.

  4. PAtrick Says:

i love this story, and im still waiting on nika to take his relationship with cody public, and to see the effects it has on the group as a whole, also what the other kids at school will say.. oh btw im pretty sure i know who tanner has a crush on.

thank you so much for creating this wonderful piece of literature ,
-one of the biggest fans of this story, Patrick

    • codyboarder Says:

      thank you patrick,

and nika and cody have a ways to go with their relationship, and at which the pace they reveal themselves to the public. but about half the “posse” already know, and in the last day i posted two more chapters that cover some others as well. be well.

  5. Stef Says:

Me thinks that chapter was stashed then fed to the hungry lions when they started to roar.Whatever I’m over the moon – I don’t like to catorgarise chapters as without any single one of them the story would not have the powerful impact it does, but I was so waiting for this one and the word used a number of times at the end of the chapter expresses my emmotion “SPECIAL” so thanks heaps – my heart feels real warm right now.
    Kindest regards Stef.

    • codyboarder Says:

      hey stef,

Yah, i knew there may be mutiny if i left the “cliffhanger” about too long, so I made sure that both chapters were complete before i posted the first….that way it would just be the next day for the conclusion. ttys.

      ~cody (the lion-tamer)!

  6. Wijnand Says:

I started reading this story on Nifty when it was first put up but somehow lost it there. Recently I was reintroduced to it and it got me hooked. Wow, what a powerful and wonderful story to read. The character building is superb. This story about love and unconditional acceptance should be wide spread as it could become an example to all on how to live, let live and rebuild the world we live in. I hastened to finish my backlog on your story so now I can stop losing sleep over it. I am very much looking forward to the next part. I think Tanner will really blossom with his new status and leave his cocoon as a beautiful butterfly. Please keep up the good work and fill us in on the next adventure.
I greet you from a cold and wintry Holland,
    kind regards Wijnand

    • codyboarder Says:

      welcome wijnand,

you are most welcome here. thank you for your interest and your praise. im glad you came by from the other site, and have followed it this far. it has a long ways to go, so i hope your in for “the long haul.” be well and stay warm over there in holland!

  7. Reddecatur Says:

Well Cody…a great reading. I can’t help but think about my friends and how we relate to each other, and it was brought on by the story. Thanks Cody.

    • codyboarder Says:

      thanks red,

i hope the story is “doing some good” in addition to being entertaining. thats wasn’t my intention in writing it, but if makes ppl happy and even helps them in some way, then that makes me very happy. ttys, and all my best.

  8. wade Says:

What can I say. Tanner is going to have a place to call home. Thanks Cody.

  9. Jeremy Says:

Cody, I’ve been catching up on the story today and, now that I’ve stopped crying, want to say it is amazing. As I said in another comment I am Tanner in a big way though he generally exploded outwardly where I turned in. When Garret stood up; to say how thing were for Tanner at home it went right to my heart. My parents were cold and unloving, my two older brothers and older sister pretty much ignored me or were so busy getting away from home that was was forgotten. Or in the case of one of my brothers I was the outlet for his frustration either emotionally or physically. Most of my life had been living in my own world to deal with life the only way I knew hoe. I’ve only recently really started to unwind the mess of my childhood (and most of my life) and now reading this is so…so….Well it hurts but its healing….Feeling for Tanner is healing because I have trouble feeling for myself…and he is so much me.

I have a few of my own “posse” now but didn’t have that at all growing up, I was alone. If I had a posse my life would be sooooo different.

Thank you so much for the time, devotion and love your putting into this story. It might sound trite but in some ways it is part of my recovery and I can honestly say you are making a small difference in my life.

    Thank You Cody

  10. jonathon Says:
